Just finished this still life, maybe to pitch to the Richard Schmid auction. This was a challenge setting up. Trying not let it get to busy and I redid the background 3 or 4 times. Still not totally happy with the balance of things though. Thanks for looking!

Well, I wanted to mimick a Tony Rider composition here and when I saw this compostion, I knew it was the one to pursue!!! This is drawn in charoal on charcoal toned Strathmore Series 400 paper. Highlights are erased with a kneaded eraser and the brightest highlights, which were not many, I used a whited pastel pencil. Thank You for looking!

This is a time lapsed drawing and was filmed in three hours. I did take the drawing home and work on it for another 2-3 hours, then we used that final picture at the end of the video. It is charcoal drawn on Strathmore Series 400 paper.

I drew this on a large format scale. I got this idea from Robert Longo work. He does subjects in charcoal, in large format style. Tools used were, General's medium and extra soft charcoal pencils for the main drawing and details. A white pastel pencil for highlights and some lighter areas. Artist Soft Pastel sticks for the darkest darks and the surrounding dark area. Kneaded eraser for mid tone lighter areas. I started off with charcoal toned Strathmoore paper. Time frame, it is difficult to say on hours, since I did not keep up with them. It took about a week overall. Working off and on with it. Thanks!

I held the camera out with my arm and was hoping to get some kind of good shot for a self portrait composition. This is the one I chose. Ended up taking probably 150-200 shots! With the digital age though makes it nice!

This is the oil well that I painted in the post below. It had shut down the week after I painted it, so I went back and climbed it! I wanted to show how huge these things really are.

This oil well is on some land that my dad cuts hay on. It is about 7 miles from the house. It was a cool thing to paint. I like using the earth tones to obtain the rust on the metal. These type of oil wells are very prominent in Texas and Oklahoma.

"Apple on a Shelf"

An apple a day keeps the doc away. Do painted ones count??? Anyway, I wanted to try and slow down and attempt to make this a little more realistic and not so loose. Because of the white shelf it had a major refelected light reflection on the entire bottom one half of the apple. I choose not to include this. I felt like it took away from the composition, but I loved the light the way it was directed and cast the shadow. The problem with leaving something out is how to add something in your not seeing and to make it translate to what is there. So much ,more to learn!!!!

This one is another in my series called "Things On The Old Wood Shelf" and it was a challenge! The values of the orange where difficult to grasp. Composition was also wanting, so I cut off about one inch or so at the bottom and it worked! I actually liked the way the size turned out. Thanks!

I obtained an old piece of wood from my dad's flat bed trailer he is re-flooring to use as the shelf for this and future paintings. Giving something old and used a hopeful new career! :)

Greetings all. I am now working as an oil, pastel, graphite and a charcoal artist. I do work in still life and as a portarit artist. I am attempting to list my smaller paintings on ebay as the , a painting a day, trend that is going around. The "A Painting a Day" movement was basically started by a fellow artist named Duane Keiser. Here is his blog link http://duanekeiser.blogspot.com/ . Duane Keiser had an article written in the USA Today paper and it sky rocketed him to fame! I myself will probably not actually list a painting everyday, but plan to quite often. I'm also planning on selling larger works in galleries and may list some on my ebay store http://stores.ebay.com/johnnyboneart and here at http://johnnylbone.blogspot.com/ ,my personal blog, from time to time. Other artist that I admire and study are Jeremy Lipking http://www.lipking.com/ and Casey Baugh http://www.caseybaughfineart.com/ ,and of course there are many others. I blessed and benefited to study under, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest teachers around. He is also a great painter. His name is Jody Thompson.
